FUN NOT SERIOUS

Growing up with a pink-mohawked older sister, who epitomized the 80s, and a mother with sewing and craft skills, becoming a stylist was inevitable. My obsession with fashion and style came early in life, when my mother hand-crafted my first velour shirt for class photos. At that moment, style was a part of me. In the early 90s, I continued my education at ACAD, studying jewelry design and metal-smithing. Leaving early, with the influence of my friend and Photographer Lana Vanzetta, I decided to move to London, England, and began my apprenticeship as a stylist. After years of experience in a position as an assistant in the prominent agency, Terrie Tanaka Management, I was quickly mentored by the fabulous Stylist Tassos and with encounters with top fashion icons like Vivienne Westwood, I decided to take my newly acquired talent back to my hometown of Calgary.

With the London culture and its fashion-forward style fresh in my mind, I continued to work for major Calgary players like Holt Renfrew and Primitive Culture, followed by opening my own boutique simply named “Worth”, in 2006. With buzz about my boutique in fashion circles reaching internationally, my talents as a stylist expanded beyond my boutique. I soon signed with the agency Artists Within, for editorial and commercial styling. After growing a roster of prominent clients for my personal stylist services and diversifying my creative talents into other projects, it was time to consolidate.

After many great years with my agent, being Fashion Editor at Parlour Magazine and Fashion Director at Styleyou.com I decided to bring it all in house and combine my art direction, model training, collaborative design projects and production under my own name, Carl Abad.
